Yesterday, while at work at another gift shop I work at, ( I work at 3), I decided to cover the band of my headphones with a cute yarn covering. I crocheted a flat piece that I tested to see if it would fit around then I sewed it on. We all seem to have a ball of yarn we got somewhere that was just so beautiful but you have no idea what to do with it. This is one of those balls. I can't remember the brand but I'm pretty sure it's either 100% wool or a mix with nylon. After I stitched the edged together I flipped the seam around to the back and viola! A cute yarn covered pair of headphones. I use my headphones to do things around the house and to listen to either an audio book or NPR (current audio book is Voyager, of the Outlander Series). I find that just wearing the headphones turned off blocks out a lot of noise distraction and I can get things done. Otherwise I'm all over the place with distractions. Here is a link to buy these yarn needles.

I've been told they are cute, but I honestly don't care if anyone thinks they are cute or stupid looking. I like them and that's all that matters. Now If only I could figure out how to cover the ears.......

The other day I was inspired by something I saw on facebook, to cover my steering wheel with a yarn covering. I had posted this in a crochet Facebook group and got a lot of lip about it so I turned off the comments. As you know, Facebook posts in groups can go south really fast. Anyway a few answers to your questions. The yarn is from Joann Fabrics. I love Chinchilla looking things so it was a no brainer for yarn choice. The hook is a size 25mm. I have no idea if it has a letter to the size. I got the hook a few years ago at Micheal's. As for the cover, no it doesn't slip. I made a 4 sc rectangle as if I was making a scarf. I made it long enough where if I sewed the ends together it would snugly fit over the steering wheel. After I sewed the ends together I sewed the side edges together to wrap the wheel and skipped over where the center connected to the wheel. It's sewn on, it does not move. It does provide a better grip then the oversized pink wheel cover I had on it for years that I got at Walmart. There are huge holes in this this where my hands do actually touch the wheel. And yes it's legal here thank you very much. My eventual plan is to crochet seat covers and cover whatever else I can in my car. I've always loved yarn bombed things I see around so I want in on the action! I'll post my progress on yarn bombing my car as I go.

A few days ago was my oldest daughters birthday! She turned 17. Every year for my kids birthday, I make them a from scratch birthday cake. No box was used in this endeavor. This daughter asks for a Red Velvet Cake with buttercream frosting not cream cheese frosting. She also requested a Trans flag on the top this year also.

If you didn't already know, Red Velvet cake is pretty much just a lite version of a chocolate cake with loads of red food dye in it.

This cake recipe cooked up really nice. I did have to add 5 minutes to the baking time. Maybe my oven is off, I dunno. While I let the cakes cool, I made the frosting. Here is the recipe I used for the frosting. I used 2% milk for the liquid and added a little more vanilla then it called for. My daughter loved it. She said it tasted like whipped cream!

I whipped it on high speed for a few minutes hoping it would add some fluffiness to it. Not sure if it did or not. Anyways, the last time I made buttercream frosting I used salted butter. This time I used unsalted butter, and it made a huge difference in taste. Funny how something so small like that can affect the flavor. I leveled the cakes with a knife and assembled the beast and my youngest daughter (14) iced the outside of the cake. It's a messy job but someones got to do it! The colored sugar sprinkles really were cute on top too.

Happy Birthday Sweetheart!
